In recent times I’ve made a concerted effort to eat less meat and I’ve started 2019 with an aim to avoid meat products altogether.

This is the only new year’s resolution I’ve ever made.

This was what one of my friends had to say about the new vegan sausage rolls at Greggs…

“Profits from this WILL go towards the killing of animals for other less profitable products. if your going to be a Vegan i personally would buy from a Vegan only company. not one who butchers a fair few animals daily. just my £1.03 Pence If you are already giving you cash to Mcd’s. Burger King and their subsidiaries, Carry on.”

I both agree and disagree.

I certainly agree that it’s not good to support soulless, eat everything in their path corporations when there are alternatives available.

I do also empathise with the fact that practicality is an issue at times. As someone who spends a fair amount of time out of the house, I understand that sometimes there is little choice.

When your day is spent between service stations and you’re four days away from having been at home to prepare your own food, you have to take what you can get and do the best you can under the circumstances. I also see that yes, in an indirect way, you are still supporting the meat industry.

But there is also a strong counter argument, because if everyone who bought a Greggs bought the vegan options then eventually the meat products would be discontinued and Greggs would no longer support its meat suppliers.

So… Right and wrong from both perspectives.

All I can say is do the best you can.
