It’s been some time since I’ve documented any progress on our studio space. In my last post on this, we’d decided on a name for the space – The Imaginarium.

Part of the reason for this lack of updates was just how busy I was. Also I didn’t want to be repeating myself. And then there was the lockdown. And everything ground to a halt. Otherwise I guess we’d be finished by now. Thankfully – and I am thankful for this every day – we have been able to hold onto our space. The past couple of months have been a strange limbo. For much of the time I was coming in here on my own and cracking on with what work I had to do, and making music and art and doing my radio show.

Two weeks ago, finally, the others started coming back in and we resumed work.

Our aim – based on the advice of a good and trusted friend – is to form a Community Interest Company. Our belief is that through hosting and providing a space for music and art events and providing a workspace and studio space – and more ideas which we’re working on – our space will benefit the local community.

Currently, we’re working on the application for the above and working on the space to make it fully usable, comfortable and looking great. The current mission is insulating the roof.

Here are some pictures of our progress, and some of the cool stuff we’ve done here since I last posted in November…

First of all, here are some recent photos of downstairs…

Before the lockdown, we put in some desks downstairs. These can also be used as lean-tos, or removed entirely, for events…

We also started creating other bits of furniture for the space…

When all this side of this is done, we’ll sort out the ceiling too. Aim is to drape some fabric which will look cool and also work for sound treating. Also, we’ll get rid of the horrible strip lights.

We’ve got a fair bit of art about the place, currently mostly mine, but we need more from other people! At the moment these pieces are roaming as we keep adding to the space…

This painting seemed especially noteworthy as we went into lockdown…

We’ve also been given some ace gifts…

Recently, we’ve made the place a bit of a mess again – and for a good cause – we’re cracking on with finishing the space. Not being able to have people here other than ourselves has been a bit of a blessing in a way, as we’ve been able to crack on with work without having to worry about storing things away if we have, say a yoga class. Current missions are roof insulating, bar and more furniture…

Hopefully soon we’ll be able to host events here again. Here are a few pics from NYE. For some reason I mainly took photos of a pineapple…

And also, hopefully soon we’ll be able to host other things such as yoga classes, workshops and various other ideas we’re working on.

We’ve also done more work upstairs – painting the walls and building shelves for all the records…

and we now have a logo…

Finally, here are some nice black and white pics of the space…
