I went to Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience and all I got was this lousy notebook that I purchased as I exited through the gift shop… Nah, it was brilliant. I’m not posting any pics of the actual thing, though, as that kind of defeats the object and would do it no justice (you were allowed to take pics and videos, there were some people in there videoing the whole entire thing, I just tried to ignore them and enjoy it 😋).

As far as the experience itself goes, I was actually kind of unsure at first. Before the main bit, you walk through some stuff that involves some not amazing projection mapping and a load of reproductions of the paintings and biographical info. None of this particularly grabbed me.

You also have the option to go into this VR bit for an additional cost, which I didn’t.

Beyond all that, the main part of the immersive experience is amazing. I won’t go into too much detail, but it’s beautiful, and a really awesome way to appreciate the paintings. I will say that any parts that involved things that were not either Van Gogh’s artwork or other artwork (there is a nice bit on Japanoiserie) looked a bit basic, but that aside, the rest of it was really good, and I would recommend going.

This is happening in various places in the UK and beyond. You can find out more here
